Meet The Chimps

October 23, 2019Category : Natural History

“Meet the Chimps” is a 6 part series taking viewers into the secret life of one of the world’s largest and most unique chimpanzee sanctuary, Chimp Haven.

The 200-acre refuge, tucked deep into the forested heart of Louisiana, is home to more than 300 chimpanzees.

Using state of the art remotely operated cameras, this series allows the viewers to become part of the chimp family, watching their antics from within their enclosures, sometimes a little closer than expected!

During more than 3 months’ worth of filming, spread over 7 months, I rigged, maintained, and operated 13 remotely operated cameras (Bradley Cam), filming the chimps in their semi-wild style enclosures. With a lot to film in the time we had, there was many re-rigging sessions and it was vital to be able to rig and test the cameras and cables quickly and efficiently, as once the chimps were let back in, there was no going back.

In addition to working with the Bradley Cam rigs, I was also the drone operator for this shoot, getting the footage necessary whilst respecting the chimps comfort and working closely with Chimp Haven’s staff to ensure the residents remained happy and safe at all times.
